PERSONAL FILES
Best WR I’ve thrown to:
Calvin Johnson. Really??? I mean I get to throw the ball to the best wideout in the league and the scary thing is he constantly is working to be even better. Plus, as good as he is at football, he's a better human being. Great role model!
Closest friends in football:
We have a tight-knit group in the quarterback room, which usually isn’t the case. So those guys, and believe it or not our long snapper, Don Muhlbach. Our lockers are right by each other and I’ve gotten to know him real well.
Favorite foods:
A great piece of filet with a nice bottle of wine to wash it down. Not to mention good lobster bisque or French onion soup to start. Mmmmmm.
Favorite movies:
“Good Will Hunting,” “Dumb and Dumber.”
Quote to live by:
“Either define the moment or the moment will define you.” – Walt Whitman. I actually heard it on the movie “Tin Cup” though.
What’s in your iPod?
A little bit of everything, it depends on my mood. I like country and rock, with of course some ’80s. My favorite artists/groups are Journey, Bon Jovi, Mat Kearney, Matt Nathanson, One Republic, Kenny Chesney and Tim McGraw. I don’t listen to too much music before games, I don’t need extra motivation. I’ve got enough right before a game and I’m concentrating on the task at hand.
Favorite hangouts:
I don't really hang out too many places. I’m pretty low key, so if I’m not golfing or going out to dinner, I’m usually at home relaxing and drinking some wine. And just because you love wine, doesn’t make you uppity. I’ve got some great spots to get a good bargain.
Charitable endeavors:
With the help of my wife and my father we established High 5ive in 2008 when we became a 501c3. It’s a fancy code for a non-profit organization. It has continued to grow and become a huge passion of mine. It primarily started with volunteer work and helping to raise awareness. We have now grown and are able to donate directly through our own fundraising. There are so many great causes and we feel fortunate enough to have partnered with Special Olympics of Michigan, Children's Miracle Network, Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and Orchards Children Services to help raise money for their causes. We work hard to come up with unique fundraising opportunities and want everyone who gets involved to walk away feeling good about what they just did. Please check out my website for more information at high5ivefoundation.org. With the help of local businesses, we look to give children of all ages an opportunity they might not otherwise be afforded.
My hero is:
My father, Gaylord. He taught me many life lessons and with the help of my mother prepared me to be successful in life no matter what I choose to do. Respect, attitude and effort take no ability, but are sometimes taken for granted. I can promise you they were not when I was growing up.
